Blackpool Fylde And Wyre NHS Trust Headquarters, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire
This Strategic NHS Site had the problem running the Fylde Coasts IT disciplines from a building whose asphalt roof and glazed skylights had been plagued with numerous leaks over a long period of time. The leaks risked costly disruption to essential IT networks.
The Trusts Estates Department decided to renovate the existing asphalt roof covering, but were concerned with the need to continue the day to day business activities without disruption to the building occupants and building function whilst the works were carried out.
After surveying the roof and following consultation with their client Castle Roofing Consultants Limited proposed a Hi-Tec solution.
In association with Kemper System, based in Warrington,Cheshire, their 2K-PUR cold applied and fully reinforced overlay system was specified to renovate the roof. The system is totally odourless and provides a homogenous and seamless single-ply covering to the whole roof area. Installation time is speedy therefore minimising inconvenience and disruption to all concerned. Also, unlike traditional hot works applied systems the risk of fire is negligible due to the no-heat and no-naked flame application methods.
Each of the redundant roof lights were boarded over and weatherproofed utilising the same system. This demonstrates the versatility of this system which is one of a wide range of coating systems designed to suit various applications in both refurbishment and new build schemes. The building now has a existing roof covering which has been renovated extending its service life for a guaranteed further 15 years.
